Kindle Games

Yes it's true - now you can get games for the Kindle! What's even better is that some of them are free!

Admittedly we're not talking about Grand Theft Auto or Fallout New Vegas here - but there's a good selection of word and number puzzles on offer. Some card based games are also starting to make an appearance.

These games started appearing in the Autumn of 2010, so they are still relatively new. We can probably expect to see more and more games for the Kindle being released over the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, here's a small selection of some of the current best sellers:

This long term family favorite is proving to be extremely popular among Kindle owners. It's by Electronic Arts and usually sells for about $4.99.

You can play against a computerised opponent or you can "pass and play" with a friend.

The controls are simple to use, there are three levels of difficulty and you can keep track of your progress using the stats facility.

Mine Sweeper

Not as old as Scrabble, but a classic in its own way. The aim of Mine Sweeper is to uncover all of the mines hidden in the game grid. As you click on a location, the number of mines immediately adjacent to it is uncovered. Use the information to clear the minefield.

The game ends when you discover all the mines - or when you click on a mine and get blown up! The Kindle version of Mine Sweeper has 3 grid sizes to produce varying levels of difficulty.

And the really good news is that Mine Sweeper is free!
