It's probably fair to say that e-book
readers are going to change the way that many of us read books. It doesn't take a great deal
of insight to see that the way that books are published is also going to change
significantly.
Without the need for traditional print
runs, and without needing to consume paper and ink or to ship a physical product,
publishing could, in theory at least get a lot cheaper.
Just for once the theory and the facts line
up pretty well. So, if you have the next great American novel tucked away in your desk, or a
collection of short stories, or a family history - whatever - you can now publish it
completely free of charge as a Kindle book.
This is very easy to do. You simply need
to save your book in HTML format - you can do this using Microsoft Word - and upload it
to the Amazon site. Anyway - Amazon explain this in more detail - and a lot better than I
can. Just click on the image to the right and you can get your very own Kindle book which
will tell you how to publish your very own Kindle book. It's free by the
way.
Also, as a bit of a bonus, Amazon will let
you keep 70% of the sales price of any books which you sell - just so long as you set the
sales price at $9.99 or less.
