Why You Should Choose A Kindle

If you've been thinking about getting yourself a Kindle, or if you're a very generous person and are thinking about buying it for someone as a gift, then you may have already got to the point of ordering and had second thoughts. That's quite understandable. Even with the recent price reductions for the third generation Kindle, it's still a fairly pricey item. You may well ask yourself "Is it worth it?". After all, we've been reading books in pretty much the same way for hundreds of years now and it still works just fine.

Well the answer is YES - the Kindle is great value for money. So just in case you either need a little more persuading yourself, or if you have to explain to your partner why your Kindle purchase makes perfect sense, here are ten reasons why you should go for it:

  1. You will never be without something to read again. You can download a new book from Amazon's site in a little under a minute.
  2. You'll be able to carry your own little library of books with you wherever you go. The Kindle can store over 3,500 books and the DX has capacity for 3,500 volumes. Try fitting that many into your briefcase.
  3. No need to worry about getting an internet connection. The Kindle's 3G wireless connection doesn't require the use of a PC or a WiFi hotspot - and there are no monthly fees either.
  4. Enjoy a little background music while you read. The Kindle can store and play mp3 music files.
  5. Choose from a huge selection of books. Amazon currently has more than 670,000 titles available - and the number is increasing daily. There's bound to be something that you like.
  6. Try before you buy. You can download the first chapter of Kindle books for free, so you'll have a good idea of whether or not you like a book before you part with any cash.
  7. Save a few bucks. E-books are quite a bit cheaper than the printed equivalents - after all, there are no printing or delivery costs to be covered.
  8. Save a few more bucks. You can actually download free Kindle ebooks direct from Amazon's website. A lot of these are classics, but you will also find "specials" from time to time from publishers who want to showcase a particular author.
  9. Customise your Kindle. Express your personality with a range of Kindle accessories - covers, lights, carry bags, spare chargers. Whatever takes your fancy really.
  10. Save the planet. E-books don't use paper, ink or bindings. There's no delivery by truck or need to pick up your book from the store which would usually involve a car trip. Go ahead, be an eco-warrior.

There are other benefits to the Kindle, but hopefully the ten items listed above should be enough to convince you (or your spouse) that the Kindle makes sense.
